Overview
Jobs Extn is a Chrome extension designed to help users save and organize job postings in their own Google Sheets. The extension operates entirely under user control and only processes data when the user explicitly invokes an action (for example, via the extension toolbar or right-click menu).
Jobs Extn does not operate any external servers and does not collect analytics or tracking data.
Data Collection and Use
Information the extension accesses
Jobs Extn may access the following information only when initiated by the user:
• Web page information
• Page URL
• Page title
• User-selected text (e.g., role title, company name, salary, location, notes)
• Google account information
• OAuth authentication tokens required to access Google APIs
• Google Sheets data
• A Google Sheet selected by the user
• Rows written by the extension into that sheet on the user’s behalf
How this information is used
The information above is used solely to:
• Save job posting details into a Google Sheet owned by the user
• Update or annotate existing rows in that sheet when the user applies fields (role, company, salary, notes, etc.)
• Provide optional on-page overlays showing which data has already been saved for the current job posting
• Suggest a document filename when printing a job posting
All job-related data is stored only in the user’s own Google Sheet.
Data Storage
• Local browser storage
The extension uses Chrome’s local storage to save configuration and state information, such as:
• setup completion status
• selected Google Sheet ID and URL
• cached authentication tokens
• Google Sheets
Job posting data is stored exclusively in Google Sheets under the user’s Google account.
Jobs Extn does not store job data on any servers controlled by the developer.
Data Sharing
Jobs Extn:
• ❌ does not sell user data
• ❌ does not share user data with third parties
• ❌ does not transmit data to any developer-controlled servers
Data is transmitted only to Google services (Google Sheets and Google Drive APIs) as required to perform user-requested actions.
Permissions Explanation
Jobs Extn requests permissions only to support its core functionality:
• identity — to authenticate the user with Google via OAuth
• storage — to store local configuration and session state
• contextMenus — to allow user-initiated actions via right-click menus
• scripting — to inject small helper scripts into the active page when explicitly requested by the user
• activeTab — to temporarily access the current page after user interaction
• host permissions (Google domains only) — to communicate with Google authentication and API endpoints
The extension does not monitor websites, run background scripts on pages, or access page content automatically.
User Control
• All actions are explicitly initiated by the user
• The user controls which Google Sheet is used
• The user can revoke Google account access at any time via their Google Account security settings
• The user can remove the extension at any time to stop all access
